(St. Louis Post-Dispatch, April 9, 2016) Ty Bechel is a recovering heroin addict. He descended from pain-pill abuse to heroin, landed in jail and almost lost his family.
"I am not unique," he said. "This can happen to anybody." That is the warning in the one-act play and an autobiography that Bechel has written since the days of his lurching, sometimes backsliding road to sobriety. His autobiography, "Heroin Rising: A Tale of True Terror," includes two chilling sentences that speak to the frightening lure of heroin and daunting challenge of escape.
